Just Camp and me

So this weekend, Brian flew to Vegas for the baby blessing of our new nephew. We decided to send Jane with him since she flies free, and Camp and I stayed home. I'm really grateful to have had this time to spend alone with Camp. I have not had time alone with Camp since Jane was born, so this was a much needed opportunity to really give Camp all of my attention. We had a great time together. On Friday night, we rented movies and stayed up until midnight and then both slept in my bed. On Saturday, we went to a local tourist restaurant where you get to eat in classic cars that have had a table built into them. I went all out and even got quarters so that Camp could ride the mechanical horse thing. we then went down to the boat docks--Camps favorite activity. I brought some bread for us to feed the seagulls. Camp was delighted at being surrounded by screeching, selfish seagulls. We even had a sea lion swim up to us. It was really fun. Then we walked down to the toy store where we spent almost an hour, and then got some Oreo blizzard fixings at Safeway. Today we have read lots and lots of books. Anyway, I really love my little Camper and I feel so lucky to have gotten to spend this time with him. I wasn't able to take any pictures because my camera was in the car that Brian took to the airport, but here are a couple of pictures that Camp and I drew. I know. It WAS very unselfish of me to forgo my lucrative future in art in order to stay at home with my kids. Maybe you can say that at my funeral, too.

I think one of my favorite things to do is spend one on one time with my kids...and it doesn't happen very often. But, I do think it is important. So fun!!

You are a great mom! All of those things you did with Camp sound so fun. I bet he will remember that weekend with you for years to come.

That's awesome Ann. I think one on one time is super important... screw the art career or any career for that matter... careers and all of their accolades are not half as rewarding or satisfying as being a mother.

You are such a cute mom! I bet Camp will remember this for so long!

Your last comment was hilarious. Maybe someday in the future, you will reach your artistic aspirations! Camp is a lucky boy to have you for his mom!

Ah, I am so warm and fuzzy after reading that. What a special time. It is amazing too me how hard it seemed with one kid but now I have two and it seems so busy and hard especially to find (or make) quality time to spend with them that when one of them is out of the picture it seems so refreshing and easy and enjoyable. How special.
I am loveing your place already, the wild life you described, I would love that and to be so close to the beach too. We are going to have to come visit you guys. Do you have any golf courses near by? That is the major motivating factor for getting Travis to visit any place.

Leela,

Funny you should ask. About an hour or so from us, there is a golf course that is like famous on the West Coast or something. I don't remember what it is called, so I'll have to ask Brian--But anyway, one of Brian's old Priest Chorum leaders comes up every year with a bunch of buddies to golf there...Yep, this is the perfect place for you guys to visit!

Oh man, I love to read your posts! I love how funny you are and also so inpiring...what a woman! :) I have been thinking about one-on-one time a lot since #2 is on the way. I am going to miss my time with just Max, but I'll have to be sure to make time like that. Camp looks like such a great kid! I hope your drawing went on the fridge next to his!

Ann, you're hot. Motherhood suits you just fine, doesn't it? I think you and Em are that type of woman that just gets more and more beautiful as the years go by. Thanks for commenting on my blog, it is like finding a little treasure every time I find someone has left me a little note:)

You're little day o' fun with Camp sound great. You're that mom that everyone will wish were theirs.

Ok, you guys. I feel like I've mislead you into thinking I'm a better mom than I am. Keep in mind that my special time with Camp was well needed. Why? Because a lot of the time I can be a real witch and I really needed to show Camp my love. And our day out on the town was still kinda selfish in a way because it was something that I could handle doing and could enjoy as well. I regret to say that there are many many other activities that Camp loves, that I am not yet willing to endure for more than a few minutes--like making tracks in the carpet with little race cars, or building skateboard ramps or playing campout. Anyway...just didn't want you all to get an unrealistic picture of my mothering.

Sounds like so much fun. That is my biggest worry about adding onto the family is diving the one on one time. Sounds liek you did a great job. I need your email address so I can give you access into my blog.
